Anthropic says Claude Code gitignores .claude/settings.local.json automatically, so the ones leaking on GitHub were "manually created and checked in." I checked my Windows laptop. 5 repos with that file, all written by Claude Code between March and August. None ignored. 2 already committed. The catch: the ignore isn't in the repo. Claude Code adds it to your global git config when it writes the file. On my laptop, that never happened. Today's version does it (I tested), but older files stay unprotected until Claude Code writes them again. Fix: add .claude/settings.local.json to each repo's
